Etymology

Jessica Hage is a multimedia visual artist with a passion for folklore, personal and cultural. Much like etymology, the study of the origin and evolution of words, her practice begins with exploring the root of a story, and shaping the journey into visual form.

All papercuttings are cut by hand, without the use of machines or artificial intelligence.

When we create together, I begin by listening - to your stories, experiences, memories, or the emotions you want held in the artwork.

This may mean learning about someone who has passed and discovering the places, animals, or small joys they loved. Or perhaps it’s exploring a feeling you want expressed, honored, or transformed.

From this, I interpret what you’ve shared through visual storytelling: nature, animals, texture, expression, and emotion. The final piece becomes a blend of your narrative and my artistic translation; something uniquely shaped by the connection we build in the process.

All of my art is drawn and cut by hand. Through this slow, intentional work your story is given life and honored. Reach out for pricing and availability, let’s create something.
